The First Major of the Year: The Masters Golf Tournament

The Masters Golf Tournament is the first major of the year and it is to all golfers, a very special event. A world amateur champion by the name of Bobby Jones founded the tournament and also co-founded the course where the Masters is played every year: the Augusta National Golf Club. Ever since the tournament started in 1934, there have been annual traditions which include, the winner receiving a coveted green jacket. In addition, the Masters is played at the same golf course every year which brings a religious experience to the fans and golfers as many great triumphs and losses have taken place there.

This year’s Masters was entertaining and thrilling as it mainly showcased a 21 year old from Texas called Jordan Spieth and many great players such as: Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose. Mickelson and Rose were in contention however weren’t able to catch Spieth. Spieth took control of the tournament since day 1: he almost tied the tournament and scoring record by shooting 64. Next day, he shot 66. Third day, shot 71 and last day shot 70. Speith was unflappable. He won the Masters by 4 strokes and tied Tiger Woods’ record for lowest tournament score by shooting 18 under par.

Jordan Spieth is a talented golfer and I wouldn’t be surprised to see his name on the top of the leaderboard in every event he plays in.
